Mission
The Building Department reviews and approves plans, issues permits for residential
and commercial construction, and performs building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical,
and sign inspections according to the Florida Building Code. The Building Department
also provides building code and Unsafe Structure enforcement for the above referenced
codes.
Florida Building Code
The Nassau County Building Department is currently enforcing the 2004 Florida Building Code
with 2006 supplements, and 2005 National Electric Code.
The 2006 Supplement to the Florida Building Code(FBC)
becomes effective December 8, 2006
Important Policy Changes
Power of Attorney
As of June 2, 2008, all Power of Attorney's on file will be voided. For your convenience,
staff has Limited Power of Attorney forms for your completion. Please be advised
only original documents will be accepted.

As of June 2, 2008, staff will no longer accept a one time Pickup Letter by Fax.
You must have the original document when you come in to apply/pickup permits.
